Gary Stroutsos at the Museum of Northern Arizona

The Grand Canyon Music Festival is bringing its Native American Composer Apprentice Project (NACAP) to Scottsdale Community College, The Navajo Nation Museum, and the Museum of Northern Arizona.

Puhutawi, a new genre of Hopi music, is based on a series of provocative songs composed by Clark Tenakhongva in Hopi ceremonial style, re-interpreted and developed collaboratively with Hopi composer and Research Associate at the Museum of Northern Arizona, Trevor Reed. Tenakhongva’s songs entice the audience to listen to the environmental and spiritual forces that bring life and motion to the Grand Canyon, an homage to the Grand Canyon–their ancestral homeland.

Performed by Clark Tenakhongva, the Catalyst Quartet, Clare Hoffman, Jeffrey Kuyiyumptewa, Gary Stroutsos, the Strata Quartet.
